The leaves are changing and the weather's getting colder, that means winter is on its way. Conicelli has put together 10 different tips you can do to improve the protection of your car and the comfort and safety for you.
1. Get A Remote Starter- Winter can be brutally cold and no one wants to run out to turn on their car and heat it up. For your convenience you can install a remote starter, which allows you to start and warm your car from the comfort of your home.
2. Get Snow Tires- Snow tires are specifically engineered to get better traction during the winter and come in handy when low temperatures leave ice and snow on the roadways. If you do decide to get a set of snow tires, it is suggested that you put them on several weeks before winter actually gets here. That way you won't have to worry about rushing at the last minute when the forecast calls for a snow storm.
3. Paint Protection- The best way to combat snow and ice during the winter months is to spread rock salt along roads and sidewalks. However, this leaves little pebbles of salt and debri on the street that could end up damaging your cars paint job. In order to combat this Conicelli has a film that you can place over car, it is not even noticeable and it will keep your car protected.
4.Regular Car Maintenance- You should always keep your car maintenance up to date, but more importantly you should check and fix all maintenance problems with the coming winter months for your own safety.
- Check the oil and get it changed if you need to, don't wait until its too late.
- Check your brakes, this will keep you from slipping along the road and keep you and others safe.
- Check your windshield wiper fluid, Conicelli reccommends a winter de-icer windshield wiper fluid.
- Test your battery, batteries tend to die faster in the winter, so always make sure your battery is working.
6. Ice Scraper- Make sure you keep more than one ice scraper either in your house or in your car, just to be sure in case you lose one or need to help out a friend. Also for those even worse ice storms get a bottle of de-icing spray, so you can get out of the cold and into your warm car faster.
7. Supplies- You never want to get stranded without being prepared, so always keep blankets and an extra pair of winter clothes in your car. Other things you will want to keep in your car are:
- Jumper Cables
- Flashlights
- Extra Batteries
- Hand Warmers
- Water
- First Aid Kit
- Dried Foods (Beef Jerky, Granola Bar, etc.)
9. Warming Up Your Car- In order to keep your car running its best you don't want to leave it idling for too long. The most your car should idle to start warming up is 30 seconds to a minute because your car heats up faster when you start driving and warming the engine. This way you will save on gas and help maintain good performance with your car.
10. Winter Driving Tips- It is important to be very caucious when driving, but especially in the winter. Make sure you don't speed, keep a 4 to 5 second distance between you and the car ahead of you (depending on conditions), if you start to lose control of your car pump your brakes instead of slamming on them and most important is you must be aware of other drivers around you.
